Saturn Valley Online, the Earthbound MMORPG!
The public version of SVO, the first since we switched to a new engine, will be released shortly (it's a matter of days now!). We're trying to get it up & running before the NCFC is over. Check back soon as a download link will be posted once SVO is live!
We've signed us up for this year's NCFC, this means we gotta have something to show when it starts. This means we'll be releasing preview release #3 when NCFC goes live. Not sure what features it'll have but I think it's about time you guys got another version you can mess around with. I'll try to keep you posted in the progress topics.
I've seen several people who like to be able to play Saturn Valley Online as soon as possible. There is a way for you guys to make that happen. As you might know at the moment none of your programmers (Darkfrost, JuN or aPhRo) have a lot of time on their hands (school, work, real life issues) so the coding part has been taking a while.
If you happen to know someone who can fluently code in C# and knows his/her way around the .Net framework and most importantly wants to help out an indie MMORPG about Earthbound send them our way, one or two people WILL make a difference.
Until then, the availability of the public SVO depends on how much time Darkfrost and the others can spend coding. So next time you ask yourself (or us) why you can't play SVO, read this post again so you're reminded we've got other stuff besides SVO on our hands as well.
PR#2 has been available for some time now and we're working on the next version. Decided to focus on the user interface of the "pre ingame" screens (the character selection/creation, etc). The engine also got a network code overhaul which will (hopefully) get rid of the infamous idle bug as well as reduce lag.
This update will also bring the first map of the renewed New Morel world as you'll be able to select which world you want to play in (as well as selecting one of the 21 available sprites). We decided to remove the Chosen Four recolors as way too many people selected them and seeing 20 Ness's running around isn't really appealing.
We're also using the engine's new auto-updater. This means you won't have to redownload the entire game anymore, whenever you start SVO it'll automatically check if there's a new version available and download the necessary files.
PR#2 is released. Not a lot of new exciting features but we added custom sprite support as well as added a bunch of Onett characters. As always, report bugs in the appropriate topic.
