Saturn Valley Online, the Earthbound MMORPG!
Good news for all you Radeon and Intel Integrated Graphics card owning folks! The graphics library we're using received an update that resolves the graphic issues with most of the cards. We will (try to) add this fix into the next revision which is scheduled to release somewhere shortly after the easter holidays.
Been working quite hard for uni stuff the last few weeks so I shouldn't have too much on my hands during the holidays which means I can spend more time on SVO. It's been so long that I'm actually really looking forward to spend more time developing and adding new stuff.
The updates have been so slow lately, we kind of lost track of time with all university things but this weekend we're going to work on SVO, 100%! I'll be fixing a bunch of things that have been on my todo list for a while now. I'll also look into making the NPC chat system somewhat more attractive. The problem we've got at the moment is that we do not have a decent AI for the NPCs or enemies (which means if we put them in-game now, they'll just be really, REALLY stupid).
I know the EB fans are loyal and patient (Mother 1/3 translation, ...) so I'm sure you guys know we're not giving up or are dead in any way, it's just one of those periods other stuff has a higher priority but as you've seen, I'm trying to keep the server up for as much time as I can.
p.s. Fan of the Shining Force series? They need your help! Check it out here.
In the past few days Darkfrost has been very busy getting our code up to date with the latest engine version. Once we've tested the changes thoroughly the next step in the development of SVO will start. This is adding decent artificial intelligence as well as being able to talk to NPCs.
The expansion of the Earthbound world will be halted for now so we can focus on features and possibly adding more areas to the SVO world. Unfortunately Cobalt has decided to move on leaving us with no dedicated pixel artist, which in turn will slow down the creation of New Morel.
Revision 7, with updated Earthbound world as just been released. It's a minor update but we figured it's been too long since the last one.
We've noticed a lot of people have issues with the game graphics. It appears the graphics library we're using (SFML) doesn't work well with the latest version of ATI Radeon drivers. Nor does it work with the default settings for the Intel integrated graphics cards.
If you have a Radeon card, try reverting to an older driver, if you have an Intel card, check this forum topic and adjust your settings accordingly.
As soon als the SFML library gets updated we'll put it in SVO and hopefully these issues will be a thing of the past.
