Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
What can I say? A lot of great games are out there, they're just hard to find or completely in another language (and never localized). Maybe it's a game you remember seeing, maybe its one you had, before your brother or sister had, or maybe you've kinda heard about it. Place a few screens and a little description about the game. AND DEFINATELY a title. And just for kicks, why not include game controls, if the game controls are wicked amazing or just plain confusing. By creating this thread, I hope to spread knowledge of some of the really great, but little known *cough*Mother series*cough* games.
Note: If the game is in another language, a way of deciphering the game, via a walk-through or patch, would be VERY nice, so a link to such pages would be accepted and HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED. AND NO DISCUSSION OF ROMs! IF YOU WANNA EMULATE THIS, I WILL NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS
So, to kick off the opening of this thread...
Densetsu no Stafy (GBA)

If you've played that great GBA game, Mario & Luigi, you've most likely seen the posters for something called 'The Legend of Stafy' this would be the game, although it directly translates into 'Legendary Stafy'. Stafy is not exactly what you would expect to be your hero, kinda small and yellow (playing the game I found out he's a starfish... makes more sense) and has that smile on his face. At first, you might say he kinda looks a little like Kirby, and that's where you'd be right, this is a very Kirby-esque game. Stafy goes around in this world near the ocean, to help and save various kinds of sea animals, by bringing them lost items or kidnapped friends, or even venturing into a whale to defeat what ails him. Stafy also has the Kirby ability of ALMOST free movement, but as soon as he pops outta water, he can only jump a little and glide. Stafy also brings something else unique to the table, instead of jumping on enemies, you must hit the with a spin (the standard, and as far as I know, ONLY attack) which is harder than it sounds, especially at first. The bosses aren't hard at all, although I did need a walk through guide for one, probably because I can't read Japanese.

This game is actually pretty simple (I haven't beaten it, I picked it up yesterday when I was bored), so if you are one of those 'not-really-good-at-video-games' people, I imagine you'd be able to get through the game. The controls aren't hard, and if you really are unsure of yourself, there is a level where you learn the controls at the beginning. Anyway, Densetsu no Stafy I found Densetsu no Stafy to be a fun, great game, filled with that great video game air and none of the disappointment. It gave me a warm feeling to play and was thoroughly enjoyable, and if you're a side-scroller fan, you'll feel right at home. As for a score... I'll give it one once I'm done.

Oh, and if you REALLY like this game, you're in luck, as there are currently THREE MORE Stafy games, with on more coming sometime this year.
The walk through guide can be found at this site: http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadva ... 9695/39004

didn't mel make a thread like this like a bajillion years ago >_>
or maybe it was someone else, can't remember
anywho, just cuz I'm still ¿UBER ADDICTED? to it <_>, I pick TAIKO NO TATSUJIN (太鼓ã®éÂâ€Ã¤ÂºÂº)
it's a single drum rhythm game that is very simple and VERY challenging (want to know how that's possible? check the videos I linked at the bottom
)
The idea is easy enough
Don beats:

Are hit in the center of the drum
Kat beats:

Are hit on the rim of the drum
So you're saying: "2 notes? that's easier then Guitar Hero on beginner >_<"
Well here's some video's to show you wrong
That one Evangelion song, not as hard as it is fun
Actually pretty challenging, despite the song xD
Version I own :3, this song kills me though

Re: Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
I saw your thing about Taiko no Tatsujin before, IMD, and I must admit, it looks AWESOME (it kinda led me to create this thread, along with the fact that I can't stop playing Stafy). But as for me... little money in my pocket, so I think I might wait (maybe I'll pick it up when I pick up Densetsu no Stafy Taiketsu! Dire Kaizokudan, which won't be until I get my new DS). Anyway, I think I've heard of Xenosaga, never played it, once again. Anyway, some screenshots or videos would be kinda nice to see of that, and a little description too.
I still haven't beaten Densetsu no Stafy, as it's a LOT harder than it seems. It still rocks, although the minigames are getting REALLY hard (maybe I suck at minigames). Level 5 I'm at, and if the storyline is intense as it seems, I REALLY WISH I could read Japanese... maybe I'll put forth some effort to learn it if Stafy Taiketsu! Dire Kaizokudan isn't localized.
And I wasn't aware there was a thread similar to this one before >< Anyway, oddities are preferred (like IMD's), but games either little known or forgotten about (via lack of translation or cancellation) are gladly welcomed as well. Just keep yer long running series games outta here (you know, Final Fantasy, Mario, Sonic, games most people can easily recognize).
Anyway, I'm sure there are some more of those hard to find, yet worth the search games out there!

Re: Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
Sweet. I've seen videos of the arcade game being played, and it looks FUN. Too bad most of America isn't in touch with their 'WEIRD' side, or it would probably do better. Kind of sad that some really GREAT games fall flat on their heads just because it looks like a weird game... maybe THAT'S why Sega stopped making Dreamcast games in the US...

that is a possibility
i just wish someone would start a chain of Japanese-only Arcades. Kind of like most arcades but with only Japanese games in them. I would go all the time

I know what you mean. Honestly, if I could find a video game store that also had a Japanese import section, I'd ALWAYS go to their store, even if it WAS a little pricey. I just hope someone sees that there is a HUGE potential in your idea (and mine) and makes an arcade chain like that. I know I'd go there, tickets or no tickets.

Re: Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
YES STAFY!!!
There are actually 4 games, 3 on GBA and 1 on DS.
Never played the first three, but four is pretty good.
And I think Wario makes a cameo in one of them...
And I say all the Game and Watch games are unseen, as they're very old and on LCD screens with beeps as noises, but they are sooooooo fun!
So go buy Game and Watch Gallery 4. Then you can play some of these great games.

Re: Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
Well, the same people that made all those Game and Watch games MADE Stafy, so
Anyway, Play-asia has Stafy 4 REALLY cheap, so I might get it (I'm gonna wait until the recent one, Densetsu no Stafy Taiketsu! Dire Kaizokudan, goes down in price). Oh, and yeah, I forgot about Stafy 4, my bad. I'm gonna go fix that.

Re: Unknown, Unseen, or Just Plain ODD Games Thread
Now that my computer is up and running, I bring you ANOTHER great game in an attempt to revive this thread.
Keitai Denjuu Telefang! (GBC)

Infamously known as Pokemon Diamond and Jade on Youtube, this game tends to get a lot of bad rep for the awful bootleg. The bootleg boasts awful translation, as well as some WTF moments (mainly because of the bad translation. For example, the main character says "If he just shuts up, he may be a cute guy as well..." Mind you that the character is talking about a girl. Which makes a LOT more sense, as homosexuality is pretty scarce in video games). The game boasts a very good storyline, as well as a fun, more classic RPG battle system than Pokemon. In my opinion, its probably the best monster battling game out there, but many Pokemon fans tend to be fast to call the game a 'rip-off' of Pokemon.
I'll get some screens and videos up soon, but I don't have any on me. A walkthrough can also be found at gameFAQs, but I'm not in the mood to post it. Yes, I'm too lazy

God Hand (PS2)
It's a beat-em-up by the boys over at Clover Studios, ya know, the same people who brought you the perfection that was Viewtiful Joe. Anyway, you play as man named Gene, who lost an arm in a fight, and now has the "God Hand." Basically you run around kicking butt and chewing bubble gum, and running out of bubble gum rather quickly. It features poison chihuahuas, kicks to the nuts, gay twins, a fat Mexican who smokes cigars, a wrestling bear, and midget Power Rangers. Also a ridiculously awesome ending credits theme.
It also spawned a meme, wherein someone who edit this comic while keeping the general format. Here's the original.
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/6812/godhand.jpg
World of Goo (PC and WiiWare)
An indie game that was developed entirely by two people. You have Goos, which can form links with other Goos in order to form structure such as bridges, sling shot Goos to other locations, flip switches, jam gears, you get the picture. Anyway, it's a great time killer, and a fantastic game at that. That art style is also really nice.

Some strange Atari game that came with mine when I bought it. There are 5 rooms to go in. Each one is one color. In some places you can pick up objects. In others, there are "games". The quotes are a warning, for these are terrible games. In one, it is like frogger. But many platforms are small, and there are easily over 20 rows of "logs". The jump detection is terrible.
In another, you run through the "log" objects, trying not to touch them. It is like a reverse frogger. There is terrible hit detection.
I never got far, because I never understood it.
